A Simple Mind: Simplicity is an Art

World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Rue de Ferney. Geneva the home to many arms of the United Nations.

No doubt, the majority of those placed on the UN roster for employment after the YPP/NCRE exams in 2010 are beginning to understand why my advice has always been to be patient.  Some have been lucky and were recruited sooner then others but many remain either frustrated with the pace of things or otherwise simply baffled.

“The Air Up There”, our Swiss Alps adventure

The view is simply stunning, shot taken from the Bergbahn - Lauterbrunnen Murren mountain railway which connects the town of Lauterbrunnen to Murren.

The view is simply stunning, shot taken from the Bergbahn - Lauterbrunnen Murren mountain railway which connects the town of Lauterbrunnen to Murren.

We set out on our recent adventure with little information about the significance of our choice of destination. What we discovered was a whole new world in Lauterbrunnen, a village town in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The town, set in the picturesque setting is hub to those wishing to explore surrounding regions of the Swiss Alps.

Magnificant, breath-taking, awesome were adjectives my little band of holiday makers uttered during our 2 nights in the town village. Even my little three year old said it was “unbelievable”!

A flash of nostalgia, remember Monty Jackson?

As a little boy growing up in Papua New Guinea, I remember my dad hustling the whole family to watch a gospel concert at the Port Moresby stadium. I clearly remember everyone being very excited while I was bewildered; clearly missing the whole point. Besides, I was not musically talented like my other siblings so I had little interest in what was at stake. But I tagged along simply because it was always exciting to leave the confines of our house.

The experience of the next 6 hours was a life changing moment. Years that followed saw me following with keen interest, the Heritage Singers who sang so beautifully that evening. Like many other children in the crowd that day, we were all dazzled by the tall, dark American tenor who had a surreal falsetto and who carried himself with so much energy. He was Monty Jackson! Years later I still wonder whatever happened to Monty Jackson?

Our little heaven on earth

Peaceful Contemplation

Outside of Geneva, there are many places to find time for peaceful contemplation. Our little slice of heaven on earth.

But on my thoughts on similarities, one that stands out most obviously is the simple fact that to appreciate the beauty of this magnificent country, you just need to drive out of Geneva.

American Idol; Gotta love Jaycee’s simplicity

I follow American Idol and I admit I miss Simon Cowell. Thankfully Aerosmith frontmen Steve Tyler adds his own unique twist to the show and is a welcome addition to the show. Funny as she may have been, Ellen is gone and the somewhat “snobbish and aloof” Kara is a thing of the past. J Lo adds sensibility and an eye for talent which suddenly makes the show a talent contest once more.
